Topic Brainstorm

Topic Brainstorm

(Alice at the tea party, by artist Arthur Rackham: uploaded by Obakeneko)

I am interested in Alice in Wonderland as a possible topic for my storybook. The story of Alice is something I have always enjoyed, but I have only been exposed to the movie adaptations of the novel. I have some knowledge of the story due to that, but I would like to learn more about it by reading the original novel. If I were to write my own story based on Alice in Wonderland, I would probably write the story from the perspective of a different character that already exists in the story or create my own new character that will interact with Alice on her adventure.

Stories from the Japanese Mythology unit, specifically from The Romance of Old Japan are also possible topics for my storybook. I have read the stories involving Izanagi, Izanami, and their children before, so I do have prior knowledge regarding this topic. These stories interest me very much because I learned many related details and the history of the stories from my past Japanese literature and history classes. There are large amounts of other stories in other written works, movies, shows, and video games that use significant portions of Japanese Mythology. I think I would like to directly tie those new stories in with things from The Romance of Old Japan if I were to write my own story on this topic.

Another possible topic for my storybook could be on Devil Stories. I am interested in these stories because I enjoy stories told from an unique point of view that also shows a character in a different role than expected. Stories that focus specifically on the Devil are not the kind that I see usually, so I am also interested in these because they are something new to me. If I were to write a story based on this topic, I would probably make up a new story that follows the Devil's point of view.

Lions in Aesop's Fables is another topic I am considering for my storybook. I did my first story for this class on one of the lion stories from the anthology given to us, and I had a lot of fun writing it. I actually surprised myself with how much I wrote and I could have kept going if I had the time. It was very easy for me to write that story because of how invested and interested I was in it, so I think this would be a good topic for my storybook as well. I would probably write another sequel to one of the lion stories or come up with a completely new one that focuses on a lion in the same style if I were to choose this topic for my storybook.
